Space Squad: Space Sheriff Gavan VS Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger features the return of Yuma Ishigaki from 2012’s Space Sheriff Gavan: The Movie and the 2015 Space Sheriff Next Generation films. Fifteen years ago, three childhood friends, Geki, Sherry and Okuma, were star-gazing and became inspired to go into space. The Legend of Space Sheriff Gavan is a special DVD released with Televi-Kun in 2012 to promote the film Space Sheriff Gavan: The Movie. It features the second Space Sheriff Gavan, Geki Jumonji and his partner, Shelly as well as the members of the Space Mafia Maku.
The legendary Space Sheriff Gavan is hired to capture the Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. However, Gavan himself is captured by Ashurada, a Zangyack prison chief and descendant of his old enemy Don Horror, and jailed in the worst prison in the universe. The Gokaigers resolve to rescue the sheriff from the prison and join forces with him to fight Ashurada.
The Space Empire Zangyack forms an alliance with the Black Cross King, the resurrected form of the Gorengers' enemy the Black Cross Führer, in order to invade Earth with other revived Super Sentai enemies. The Gokaigers, along with the Goseigers, who have lost their powers from the Legend War, must team up in order to fight against the new enemy.

Kenji Takahashi, known professionally as Kenji Ohba is a prolific Japanese actor and former stuntman best known for his roles in the Super Sentai and Metal Heroes series, especially as Retsu Ichijouji / Gavan in the 1982 TV series Space Sheriff Gavan.
